The best reason to run my first marathon
About 2 years ago, I started a running journey on my way to become healthier and to set an example for my children. My first 5K felt awful, but I kept going. By the time I ran my first 15K, 1about 10 months into training, I couldn't believe I was the same person who couldn't run more than 2 minutes before. Throughout this journey, I've ran several short and not so short races. I recently finished a half marathon without stopping! What is a common thing among all my races is that whenever I thought I couldn't run any longer and wanted to quit, I thought of my patients and then I had to keep going.
On October 11th, I will be representing Advocate Health Care as a member of the charity running team at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon! As a member of the charity running team, I will be training, fundraising, and ultimately running 26.2 miles to benefit the Advocate Children's Heart Institute.
I have been part of the Advocate Children's Heart Institute for almost 12 years. My patients are my true heroes. They have endured in a short time more than most of us endure in a lifetime. And through surgeries, procedures, lines and tubes, they overcome and smile and play and succeed. And even though I never thought I'd be running a marathon, I realize that what these kids go through is way tougher than running 26.2 miles. So here I am. And I will think about them with each step. They are my true inspiration.
There is never too small of a donation. Your donation of any amount will not only help me achieve my goal, but will help to ensure that these babies have access to the care they need the most.
Would you support me through this journey?
Thank you! Heart hugs!
