Eleven-month-old Dominique has returned home to her family in the Ivory Coast of West Africa.
More than two months ago, Dominique came to the U.S. to undergo a risky and complex surgery at Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge. She was born with an undeveloped parasitic conjoined twin that resulted in two additional legs protruding from her back and two spines.

LJ's Healing Hearts |
The Shannon family, with help from their friends, created LJ's Healing Hearts to help provide financial support to families impacted by congenital heart conditions. The foundation, created in honor of their daughter, Lucy, who was born with a congenital heart defect, donates back to Advocate Children's Hospital. They recently purchased 20 infant scales to be given to families who are closely monitoring their baby’s weight gain throughout their care.

Visit from our friends at Mondelez International |
Mondelez International recently visited the hematology/oncology infusion center and the inpatient unit on the Park Ridge campus. They brought various snacks and gluten-free Enjoy Life products to distribute to patients and stock the clinic shelves, and will continue to supply gluten-free products for patients diagnosed with celiac disease. Mondelez employees have donated gift cards over the past three years to distribute to our patients during the holiday season and have committed to do even more this. More than 100 children and adults were screened for celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine, at Advocate’s 3rd annual free screening clinic in March.

#KidsCubsCactus Advocate Children's Hospital, American Airlines and the Chicago Cubs partnered to send nine courageous patients and their families on an unforgettable trip to Cubs’ Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona. #KidsCubsCactus was an all-expenses-paid trip that included time with Cubs players and behind-the-scenes experiences they will never forget.

A remarkable patient Second grader Lauren Graver, who is battling a rare muscle-based cancer, received a blanket at her first cancer treatment at Advocate Children’s Hospital. Because of the comfort she felt, the 8-year-old has been making blankets for her fellow patients ever since. Lauren recently delivered almost 600 hand-made blankets, each with its own inspirational message.

Running for Hope 5K
This year's 10th annual Running for Hope 5K is generously benefitting the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division. In honor of all those who have fought cancer, National Cancer Survivors Day was recognized at the event. You can continue to make a gift on their website.

Care Focused on Kids: Transport Program On the ground or in the air, the Transport Team acts as a “mobile intensive care unit” for patients ranging from the very smallest neonates to adult patients with pediatric diseases. It is the only team in Illinois with the capabilities and training to transport patients on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). The program benefits greatly from charitable support. In 2016, 4,700 transports were received.
