As a hospital on its Magnet journey for nursing excellence, we continually measure new knowledge, innovations and improvements. Nursing’s focus on these three areas drives evidence-based practices and research. These projects and the opportunities to present these works at conferences are funded through charitable gifts raised at this special event. This year 100 percent of the funds raised will support our NEW Nursing Research and Education Fund that will allow us to help fund the research efforts of our nursing staff.

Charitable donations from previous donors have helped support the following:
  • 12 team members to attend national conferences including but not limited to the Society of Pediatric Nurses, Palliative Care Conference, Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Conference and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society.
  • $4,000 for a research grant to study the implementation of an evidence-based practice algorithm for nasogastric/orogastric tube verification.
  • Six nurses to attend the annual national Magnet Conference in 2018 in Denver, Colorado which served to inspire the submission of an abstract to this year’s conference which was accepted.
  • Four nurses to attend the Advanced Practice Institute (API) at the University of Iowa Hospital which focuses on educating nurse leaders to guide colleagues and teams in the integration of evidence-based knowledge into practice. They will be working on two evidence-based practice projects: Face-to-Face Nursing Hand Off from the ED to Inpatient Setting and Swaddled Immersion Bathing in the NICU.
